Possible background

This verb ‘qamaşmaq’ is number 5 on the structural system of verbs. It means that it is the mutual formation of the base 1 of this system while there is no any infinitive as ‘qammaq’ from base 1 on hand but a noun qam. We know that the name ‘qam’ (spiritual character mentioned frequently in the well-known book Dədə Qorqut) had been around.

Qam: (spiritual leader or teacher, guru [quru])

The difference between ‘qam’ and ‘quru’

[m]: potential action

[r]: actual action

From ‘qam’ the name qəmər (‘Moon’ in Arabic) [qam + ər (man, doer)] meaning “the Qam man” (the spiritual guiding man) has come around. It is very odd that the name of the Moon (as an early distinct phenomenon) to be more than one syllable. Therefore, the name in Arabic for Moon is, in fact, some definition or description to the Moon taken from some source. This source, for some reason or another, had been the Moon, as the source of light in darkness, anyway.

We suppose that the verb qamaş- (get dazzled by light or reflexion) is related to its pssible origion ‘qam’ that goes back to some source of light which is most possibily the Moon.
